uShip Shopify App: Quick Start Guide

Updated

Before You Begin

Ensure you have:

  • A Shopify store with Carrier Calculated Services (CCS) enabled
  • Admin access to your Shopify store
  • A uShip account (If you don't have one, you'll create it during this process)

Step 1: Create Your uShip Account

Step 2: Generate uShip API Key

Step 3: Install the uShip Shopify App

  • Open uShip's Shopify app directly from Shopify's App Store here
  • Log in to your Shopify admin account
  • Click "Add app" and follow the installation prompts
  • When prompted, paste your uShip API key

Step 4: Create uShip Shipping Profile

  • Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery
  • Click "Create new profile"
  • Name it "uShip"
  • Set shipping zone to United States
  • Deselect all non-contiguous states (should have 49 entities selected)
  • Click "Add rate"
  • Select "Use carrier or app to calculate rates"
  • Choose "uShip Rate Provider"
  • Save the profile

Step 5: Add Product Dimensions & Weight

  • Go to Products in Shopify admin
  • For each product you'll ship through uShip:
    • Add product weight
    • Add dimensions in one of these formats:
      • In product description: Dimensions: 23"W x 33"H x 21"L
      • In product title: Product Name 48"W x 18"D x 74"H
    • For products with multiple size variations, [see our detailed guide on setting up variants]
    • For sets of identical items (e.g., "Dining Chairs (set of 2)"), [see our guide on handling product sets]
  1. ⚠️ Important: Accurate weights and dimensions are crucial for correct shipping rates. See our complete guide on adding weights and dimensions for detailed instructions and additional methods.

Step 6: Configure uShip App Settings

  • Go to Apps > uShip Shopify App
  • Set your preferred markup (percentage or fixed amount)
  • Configure uShip Protection Program (UPP) settings
  • Set Earliest Pickup Date buffer

Step 7: Test Your Integration

  • Go to your Shopify storefront
  • Add a product to cart and proceed to checkout
  • Enter a US address and verify uShip appears as a shipping option
  • Complete a test order
  • For items purchased on your Shopify store or via point-of-sale: Verify the order creates a shipment listing in your uShip account
  • For items NOT purchased on your Shopify store of via point-of-sale: You need to manually send your orders to uShip. Find more details on how to do this here.
