Using a Bill of Lading (BOL)

Updated

Bill of Lading (BOL) functions as proof of your shipment. It's not always required for non-LTL (Less than Truckload) shipments, but it can help you better manage your own records. A Bill of Lading is also receipt that includes pickup and delivery dates and should be used to notate any damages caused before or during transit.

To view and print your BOL, head to the My Shipments menu and click the Print BOL button on the corresponding shipment. If you don't already have one, you will need to have a program that can view .PDF files, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. The BOL will open in a new window and you should see an option to print it from your computer.

Be sure to read through the first page of the document as it will tell you which sections to fill out. Not every section will be necessary to complete, depending on your role or your shipment.

You may be provided with a different BOL provided by your carrier or one for a specific type of shipment. The BOL provided by uShip is a template that will import information from your listing. Using a different BOL is acceptable as long as the same or more information is documented. Remember, your BOL is available to notate any damages prior to pickup or after delivery. Don't forget to keep a copy for yourself!
