Completing the LTL Published Rates Quote Form
The information input on this form will have a direct impact on the success of your shipment. It is of the utmost importance that a shipper verifies the information submitted on this form prior to booking an LTL Published Rate. The Carrier will not be verifying this information prior to accepting a bid. They are relying on the shipper to properly quote.
A) Select your handling unit. Selecting a handling unit of "Other" will send you to the LTL Marketplace. There you will work with a transporter in an auction type listing process, you will not receive an LTL Published Rate.
B) Enter the dimensions (in inches) of your shipment. If you do not know the dimensions of your shipment, it is of great importance that you attempt to find them. The rate that you will be shown is directly related to the dimensions you input on this form. If the dimensions are not accurate, the possibility exists that the carrier will remeasure and charge more for the shipment after it delivers. When you obtain a quote based on dimensions, it calculates the class and quote based on density. Dimensions play a large role in this calculation. If dimensions are larger than quoted, the shipment becomes less dense and carriers charge more.
C) Enter the weight by item of your shipment. If you do not know the weight, it is of great importance that you attempt to determine the weight. The rate that you will be shown is directly related to the weight input on this form. If the weight is not accurate it is very likely that the carrier will reweigh and charge more for the shipment after it delivers. When you obtain a quote on dimensions it calculates the class based on density, weight plays a large role in this calculation. If the weight is more than quoted, the cost of the shipment will increase.
D) Enter the number of items being shipped. If you are shipping multiple pallets that are the same dimensions and weight, enter the weight of one pallet and enter the number of pallets in this field. The total weight will be calculated below, verify that the total weight of all pallets matches the weight of your shipment.
E) Select the location type of your pickup and delivery. If you are not sure of the pickup or destination location, it is of extreme importance to determine this information. Google Earth is a very helpful resource for viewing addresses and locations if you are unsure. Carriers will not verify the location type prior to showing a quote on uShip. The information you input on this form will trigger the proper quote amount, if the proper location type is not selected on this form you are very likely to be rebilled by the LTL carrier after delivery. F) Enter the Zip Code of the Pickup and Delivery. Zip Codes will produce the most accurate quote, it is very important that the correct zip code is selected. Adding the correct zip code will help to prevent reconsignment and help prevent delays in transit.
G) Enter the pickup date of your shipment. Carriers can typically accomodate pickups on the same day as booking but it is best to schedule the pickup at least one day in advance. If you are booking a pickup after 12 PM local time it is highly advised that you call the carrier at the number listed on the BOL to ensure that they can accommodate the pickup.
H) Select "Call Before Delivery" or "Appointment Required" if either of those are required to complete the shipment. Properly selecting these during the quoting process will eliminate the additional charges that might result from requesting the service after selecting a carrier. To avoid charges after booking, select all services required on this form.
Note: If you write "Call Before Delivery" in the special instructions on the Bill of Lading the carrier will perform the service but charge for it after delivery.
I) Select Liftgate Service at pickup or delivery if the location does not have a dock or forklift. If you are unsure if the location has a dock or forklift it is very important that you find this out prior to booking a shipment. Google Earth is a very helpful resource for viewing addresses and locations if you are unsure. For insurance reasons, carriers will most likely not let a shipper unload off the back of their truck without a liftgate. If a liftgate is required, it is important to properly select it at this point in the process to avoid additional charges after delivery.
